~ Tidy and enjoy! ~Tidy Farm is the name of my farming volunteering as creative practice. The name was conceived by my farm moms on the leased land where I take the errant bindweed, thistle*, blackberry and willow to use for art material. I travel to farms to help with weeding, staking, bed maintenance, pruning and more!
~ I tidy your farm so that you can joy! ~But in all seriousness I see the land work parallel to my art practice. I currently specialize in dried flowers & drying crops for a shared Dry CSA. Looking to get into seed work, medicinal plants, dry beans, dye plants, flax & plant fibres and MORE!! All this within the framework of co-existence, interdependence and deep ecology. Big shout out to all those past, present and future doing this same work <3*I have not found a material use for thistle yet. Send any leads!

What is attractive compost?********************
My grandmother loves to make crafts at her senior home. Plastic beaded bracelets, plastic clay covered bowls, a decadent decorative cake piped with silicone cream and plastic fruit slices. She never misses a craft activity, even if no one else attends. The joy my grandmother gets making these pieces and showing them to me is delightful. Unlike me, who made a version of all these things in preschool/ kindergarden/ elementary school, she has never had the means (1930s in China y'know). These crafts are a new and novel experience. I am so happy she gets to experience it now. But there's still always a part of me that knows all these objects are destined for the garbage.Attractive garbage. In art school, so much of the time it seems what we made was destined for the garbage. Not in a critical or negative sense, but truthfully it would end up in a landfill one day. A lot of what I made in art school was attractive garbage. Sometimes not even attractive!Attractive compost. Since learning basket making and other plant art skills from Earthand Gleaners Society (shout out to this inspiring group of people!), the disconnect in creating attractive garbage is shifted to the answer in creating attractive compost. Of course this idea is not original and has been practiced by humans forever. You can reason it's practiced by non-human kin when birds make nests, plants bloom flowers, etc. Still the novelty brings me delight much like my grandmother and the modern crafts she makes...
